Laurie Florence is UL’s Principal Engineer for stationary/motive batteries and energy storage systems (ESSs). She represents UL on a variety of UL standards panels including 1973, 1974 and 9540 –as well as other related standards development committees across ANSI, SAE, ISO, IEC, CSA, and NFPA. She participates on NFPA 855 (ESS installation) and on NEC CMP 13 (responsible for Articles 706 and 480). She is the convener for IEC SC21A Working Group 5 for industrial secondary lithium battery standards and is a member of IEC TC 120 (ESS standards). Laurie is also responsible for the certification categories stationary batteries and ESSs at ULand has 28 years of experience at UL in safety certification and standards development.
